I am studying some anatomy right now and the thing I like about it the most is its nomenclature; it is super fun deducing the etymologies of the various muscles. Anyone here studied anatomy in the past or is interested in it? |

Let us draw conclusions about where the word BOOBS came from. |

These kinds of words are difficult to track down with regards to etymology, but this might be a start: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bubby |

I'm kinda interested in anatomy but not so much the names of things so far as just knowing the shapes of different body structures in order to recreate them more easily trapezius > boobs

Hello, I study anatomy in my free time. I took a physics class instead of anatomy. Anatomy is fun fun fun! I can say that learning the names and the history behind the names can help you remember them better than compared to trying to remember them as nameless masses of flesh (from an artistic point of view, anyways) For artistic anatomy, I recommend Bridgman and Hampton and practice through direct observation, creating and discovering your own methods of simplifying millions of planes into a few. Bridgman has a lovely style, I think: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_wzb57T4sXqA/S7oz...gebody+mass.jpg http://illustrationart.blogspot.com/2010/0...-art-class.html (Blog with naked drawings of people drawn by Bridgman's pupils) Hampton: http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/236x/ac/...a19b6ecf53e.jpg I had several medical anatomy books just sitting around the house when I was a little kid, I always went through them

What's interesting is that there were some art students that came by the anatomy lab every so often to observe our dissections and draw them in their notebooks. There are a number of paintings that line the halls of the anatomy building from those art students. |
