I've recently been learning Javascript through codeacademy and goddamn it's nearly identical to PHP so far. It's making things really really fast and easy to pick up, it's nice. I'm sure more major differences will show up when I hit the more advanced stuff but so far it's smooth sailing. As a more general topic, has anyone else been learning/learned any code? http://www.codecademy.com/ is a great resource if you're interested, it'll do baby steps if you need them/have never done any coding ever. Plus you get achievements in it so automatic motivator. |

Dude that's sweet. If you have free time you should totally help me recreate LostMagic ![]() Incidentally, my weakest point is networking/client-server communication *wink wink*. |

I took classes in C++ and scientific computing (Mathematica, MATLAB, etc.). I was pretty good with the latter and published some papers with their help, but C++ was more for fun. It did help instill good coding practices though. |

Apparently according to my networking prof, C is a good language to get familiar with bc you can make p much everything with it -- our OS' are made with it. I don't like how its formatted, I prefer VB, but I've only had ~7 weeks of both so I might be judging too early |

Think of VB like legos. You can make things quick and easy, but only in the shapes the legos let you. C is like you needing to create the legos before you put them together. You can make the legos whatever shape you want, so you can make anything you want, but it's going to take *forever* to learn how to make the legos and constant references to what lego molds produce what legos. |

C++ is the standard programming language for games, OS, and lots of other things atm, so he isn't wrong. Personally I can't stand VB. |

When I started learning C++, I didn't realize it wasn't really used for web apps, so I was kind of bummed, but I thought it was awesome it was behind a lot of OS stuff. |
